I’m wondering how you know whether bears swim to your island or not. Is there any record of a sighting in the past? I’m asking because there have been bears spotted in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in areas the would be really surprising (an area called the Core Banks National Seashore). They are only sighted occasionally, but they have to swim to get there.

Bears are actually pretty good swimmers. They may not swim to your island because the food they like to eat is not there or there is another place they prefer.

Where is your island located? Do you know if there is a large bear population in your area?
