SMART QUESTION
In April 2022, if we bore two trees each of 4 different species (Cedar, White Pine, Balsam Fir, White Spruce) at Edna Drinkwater School in Northport, Maine, and study the samples with a microscope and scanner to count the tree rings to tell the tree’s age and growth during the life of the tree, and compare our records to Belfast Water District weather records, will it show the same data about the climate? Plus, what is the total amount of Carbon Dioxide the tree sequestered and the amount of C02 the dead trees are putting back out into the atmosphere?

How much growth will be produced by sugar kelp and alaria kept in a 30 gallon man made saltwater tank, that is kept at around 50 degrees Fahrenheit and is daily checked for pH and salinity levels? How will this growth compare to growth of sugar kelp and Alaria in the Damariscotta River Estuary? Which sample will grow larger in between November and April? This is important because it provides food and is a growing aquaculture industry in Maine.
